Combatting Human Trafficking
July 31, 2020

Our Government introduced Canada’s first National Strategy to Combat Human Trafficking because we want to eradicate this horrific crime and support the individuals, families, and communities most impacted by it. As part of our Strategy, we’re empowering victims and survivors of this crime by providing trauma-informed, culturally-relevant supports and services for at-risk populations and survivors of human trafficking.

Over the next four years, we’re committing up to $19 million to help the most vulnerable people protect themselves from being trafficked, and empower survivors to regain independence and control over their lives. We have taken important steps but there is more work ahead. We are determined to end human trafficking ensure heinous crime is no longer a threat to anyone in Canada or around the world.

“Human trafficking is largely hidden. New trends continue to emerge and the pandemic has increased the harms to the most vulnerable. If you are a survivor of sexual exploitation, forced labour; if you believe someone else might be; or if you are currently being exploited and ready to talk to someone about your next steps, please call the Canadian Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-833-900-1010. Caring professionals are ready to assist you 24/7. If you and your team provide holistic, trauma-informed services to help survivors regain their independence, reintegrate into their communities, and begin their healing and recovery process, we thank you. Eligible organizations for the funds announced today include those supporting victims and survivors and community-led empowerment programs addressing the root causes of human trafficking.”
